To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} from EFC. X8650 SILENT STARTER COMBINED MAIN & RELAY SWITCH. Having considered the matter of the silent starter on 9-EX we have decided that to improve the operation it is necessary to reduce the travel of the relay switch, and for this purpose we have made out a new table of gaps as follows :- Position. Gap at upper contact. Gap between armature and core. Gap at lower contact. Carbon gap. Off. O .042"+8 -6 .050"+10 -5 -.045"+ -10 depression Carbons just making. .018"+5 -3 .025" +10 .020"+15 O On. .030"+5 -3 .012"+3 O .030"+20 We should be pleased if you would have the distance pieces which determine the height of the top plate on the relay switch reduced, so as to bring the gaps within those given by this table, after which please return the switch to us for further test, when we hope we can pass it for replacing on 9-EX in place of the one which came off. As regards the starter motor and actuator we have gone over these and find them to be O.K., so we are sending these in to you in order that you may, in the meanwhile, be replacing these on the car. | ||
