Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1204 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}11/KW.12.5.39. ROLLS-ROYCE LTD., GLASGOW. (Controlled by Rolls-Royce Ltd., acting for and on behalf of the Secretary of State for Air). The Air Ministry have decided to increase the facilities for the production of Rolls-Royce engines, and it has been agreed that Rolls-Royce Ltd. will manage this Factory on their behalf. We want to make clear the status of this factory. (1) It is entirely an Air Ministry enterprise. The Air Ministry will pay the whole of the expenses of the capital cost of the factory, and the working capital: they will pay all salaries and wages; they will pay for all materials. (2) There will be an entirely separate set of accounts for this factory. Therefore it is essential that no expense should be incurred by us in connection with Rolls-Royce Ltd., Glasgow, unless we receive a definite covering order, which for the time being will be issued only by Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Ryce. This not only applies to direct expenses but also indirects, such as planning, drawing, blue prints, etc. (3) The management of this factory will be entirely separated from Derby and Crewe. Temporary offices have been taken at Imperial Chambers, Prince Albert Street, Crewe, and also at 29, St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} Vincent Place, Glasgow, C.1, but until the necessary staff has been engaged, all enquiries should be made to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Ryce, Derby. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
