To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} G.W.H. +340 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}3/KW.12.12.35. SpectreCodename for Phantom III III - Radiator Steam Release. This has been discussed with E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} The question of the stiffness of the diaphragm can be overcome by altering the assembly. The edge will be rolled over only and not soldered. This can be made a tight joint. The soldering stiffens the diaphragm up. The material which is now .006" thick is to be reduced in thickness. The spring for loading the valve will be made similar to the one tried on 31-EX. With these modifications we are of the opinion that the job will be satisfactory. The inlet pipe nozzles are to be made to divert the flow of water away from the overflow unit. The new scheme E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} was working upon means at least two or three months before it can be made up and tested and will not be any less complicated. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} [Handwritten] We should like to have your suggestions for simplification. We do not agree with this remark.
