To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. BJ. c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X7791 EFC3/T10.9.27. NEW SLEEVELESS WATFORD MAGNETOS. 2nd. & 3rd. Machines Nos.99171 & 99802. Further to our EFC1/T7.9.27, these machines have not turned out very satisfactory on the cars. We attach a copy of a letter we are sending to Messrs. Norths in this connection which gives a full report to date of the technical position. Further to this, we have this morning information from Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} that Messrs. North and Sons have submitted an offer to supply us with "a modified EW.6. magneto with a simpler form of distributor block and without provision for lubrication of the armature bearings by the user, at a figure representing 10/6d. less than that they now quote for the sleeveless type EW6, two of which you have under observation, i.e. Nos.99171 99802" In answer to Roy{Sir Henry Royce}'s query as to the origination of this suggestion, we have quoted to him the first portion of your Rl/M19.8.27. As we understand it, your desire in the first instance was to know what reduction in price would follow from the use of these various simplifications. Do you wish us to obtain any samples of this cheaper grade magneto for test ? As a result of our request to Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} for comparisons of prices of other makes of magnetos, viz. Scintilla and Bosch, with the present Watford, we have received the following information:- Contd. | ||
