R.R. 306. ST.{Capt. P. R. Strong} 74997/4/11/38. C.E. EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT REPORT. REFERENCE:- Lr{Mr Ellor}/Wst.23/WJ.10.10.39. Subject of Report:- Investigation into inconsistencies experienced with the heat factors of Lodge and K.L.G. aluminium oxide insulated plugs resulting in engine failures. General Conclusion:- The design of both K.L.G. and Lodge types is fundamentally unsound resulting in the heat factor varying in use. The use of a silver core central electrode melted into position in the insulator is recommended based on results obtained with plugs designed by the A.C. Co. Placing the gas seal on the electrode as near as possible to the firing end is recommended. Lr{Mr Ellor}/Wst/J.Marsden.
