[Top left, red ink] Broken Raybestos Ferodo lining. 1796 in RD. [Top section, black ink] Hand grinding was tried - no worse than graphite grease (exactly). Lub. to be discouraged. Have now had letter from Tom H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} saying that brake linings fitted to Wardman's car have worked well satisfactory, referring also to Owner & pleased with excellent results sufficiently - a true prophecy. R telegram - Try letter C.I. suggest cold steel filling. Try other material such as... [Entry 85] R - Filled. Try other material such as 8-7-14 (85) * length of more axial length of drum & linings. (He means circumferential) a/c to shaft. ** Improve positioning of actuating shaft o/c to obtain more circumferential contact. C.I. has been examined. Try Black's Lead, a lubricant. Send me the car as soon as examined. [Entry 86] R to Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} - ref. complaints - much variation - some grind 8-7-16 (86) c J-Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}-Na{Mr Nadin} splendidly & nearly others like Chas. Few seen, act. v.{VIENNA} well & others badly. Try all. in mottle or... 1) no variation in grades of C.I. 2) cast iron v steel. 3) Dimol 4) Ferodo 5) Copper or... ?? Bad design of more axial length of drum & linings or any other such great favourite of mine. lined ends (Ferodo) off 3" - steel-seizures prone. with CI o lined ends ?? Bad tapes of linings tend to dig in & seize - Rivet heads off 3", fill with graphite - a special (commercially good) ? Cartridge on Cuf? Grapday. (small lockage on linings). Go back to original full r system & test out with Cuf? Grapday. Kindly put in hand all exp(eriments) to come to some conclusion - a variation of brake actual movement of any consideration a... The order for 8 sets of Ph. hard liners were tanked to you 2 mths{Reg Matthews} ago & not yet received any from you. Too hot wear - our indices of improvement - for wear on text - New dyno test... linings do not, usually introduced - broken run! tests are being done to measure actual wear... compare DRB & Control etc etc. Report SA results to hand, probably also recently suppl. I can get car from Radley... Car RT today but after 1,000 miles - Wear excessively when pulling up on flight, 6 inches of hand brake... Rework from Waldron, Blackshaw... will be provided SAP. Cannot get my report on them. 5% Lead P/f S' - 10% exp & test now... 5% ci liners lined with C.I. V.{VIENNA} good surface... more of noise - 10% Lead / Cu. Esp squeak. Not so effective, quieter but not v.{VIENNA} powerful. linings lined with C.I. V.good surface, poor locking. Drums became v.{VIENNA} hot (thro warped). V successful Die pressed liners showed superior. Now when fitted to (car...) Drums (only) leads to expansion...
