C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} PEREGRINE SERVO.
-----------------

The shoe type servo - N.sch. 361C - which we have now sent to Derby is not suitable for Peregrine because we cannot, as far as we know, increase the centres of the bridge on the Peregrine gearbox.
It was suggested that we should try a two plate servo - N.sch.3612 - with the idea of reducing the pressure per sq.in. and the end load, and we submitted a sketch of this arrangement to R.{Sir Henry Royce} at the same time as we submitted the shoe arrangement.
R.{Sir Henry Royce} preferred the shoe arrangement, but in view of the difficulty with Peregrine we are sending you a sketch of the two plate servo in case it is of any use to you in overcoming the Peregrine difficulties. It is not a design but merely a sketch of the idea, but we think it will be seen that it will go into the existing Peregrine space.
