PRIVATE. MINUTES OF CONFERENCE AT DERBY TO DISCUSS CAR WORK FRIDAY, JUNE 9TH 1933. PRESENT - Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Hdy.{William Hardy} Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Minute No. 1. Item 2 on Agenda. Peregrine. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said that the policy with regard to Peregrine was not yet definitely settled and until a settlement is come to all work on Peregrine must be stopped and all cars and material removed from the Works and Experimental Shop and locked up in store. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} will issue definite instructions to this effect. 2. Item 1 on Agenda. J.III. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said that J.III. is of first importance in view of the possibility of the Bentley affecting the sales of 20/25 to some extent. In such case J.III will be badly needed in 1934. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said J.III is desirable also for two other reasons; that it will make a better motor-car than the 20/25 and should be less expensive to manufacture. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said it would have the following advantages over the 20/25:- (1) Better performance owing to larger engine. (2) Better appearance. (3) Economy in production. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} & Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} both pointed out that there is nothing novel or revolutionary in the J.III and the increased performance expected from it is due to the larger engine. (Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said it is important that the position of material supplies for 20/25 be looked into so as to make sure that J.III material can be ordered without delay as soon as released.) Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} suggested Christmas as being the latest date for a complete J.III car to be on the road in final form. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} asked that the progress to date be discussed in some detail and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} gave the position of design on the engine unit. Various points of design and specification were talked over and decisions made. | ||
