and whitemetalled nut tomorrow. We find that the Hispano car has a whitemetalled nut.

(7) Cutout.

In France, there have been occasions when the cutout has stuck open. This has always occurred during the very muddy weather. It is believed that the torsion springs become jammed with mud. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} is giving us an alternative design with an extension spring.

(8) Gudgeon pin knocks.

The gudgeon pin knocks have become worse on this car. The piston which was returned from having broken, shewed that wear had taken place in the piston due to the hammering of the gudgeon pin. In future the pins are to be put in when the pistons are hot. This allows us to have the gudgeon pin .0015" over-size.

(9) Step iron at rear of battery box broken.

We have had several step irons break during the tests with the standard 40/50 cars in France.

(10) Clutch pedal.

This is reported to have worn sloppy on the pedal shaft. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} has supplied us with a modified scheme.

(11) All four leather covers of the rear brake adjustment on the cam operating shaft have failed.

One of these has been burnt off by the cutout, the other three have been knocked off by stones.
