FWJ/DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions} Head Offices, Works and Design Dept.: DALLOW ROAD, LUTON. Messrs Rolls Royce Ltd. Derby. 3rd September, 1937. For the attention of F.J.Hardy Esq.(Experimental Dept.) Dear Sirs, We duly received the broken parts of the "Phantom lll" roller assembly returned as per your letter of the 31st ultimo. Careful examination of the parts does not disclose any reason for the failure of the cage, with the exception that on the one Race Cone there is a distinct grinding dwell which we here think may be a contributory cause to the collapse of the first roller in the cage, after which failure of other rollers, and distortion of the cage, would simply be a matter of time. It is, of course, decidedly difficult to give any definite opinion when just only certain parts dismantled from an assembly are sent along to us, but as mentioned above, the only fault that we can find is the flat on the one cone. The whole of the parts are being returned to you, marked for the attention of Mr.F.J.Hardy, and in due course we shall be pleased to hear if your final probable conclusions coincide with ours. We are, Yours faithfully, for ADAMANT ENGINEERING CO. LTD. Sales Manager. | ||
