would re-adjust itself to the new conditions without fear of failure.

If we were to attempt to increase the tensile strength of our standard 3½% nickel steel beyond the figure quoted, there would undoubtedly be a definite risk involved owing to the drop in reduction in area which would take place if the tensile were increased to say 20%. This fall in the reduction in area would certainly represent a serious danger, and is a feature which we could not entertain.
