File Dear Mr. Robotham, I am particularly interested at the moment, in the question of dry and lubricated wear. I think I showed you, on your last visit here, some tests that we had carried through in the Research department showing that liners made from a high chrome, high phosphorus cast iron give very much better results when run in the same engine with liners made of other compositions. To augment this information I wondered whether you have any results which you have obtained from carrying through similar experiments. Similarly we are putting through various tests with cast iron brake drums having two separate and distinct characteristics – (1) To determine whether the form and size of the graphite flakes in the cast iron have any direct bearing upon the co-efficient friction, the resistance to wear and the resistance to develop 'crazy pattern cracking'. (2) To what extent the factors in No. 1 are effected by modifications to the matrix or structure of the cast iron. If you have any information in this direction I should be greatly obliged if you would be good enough to pass it on to me. I must explain that I am not only particularly interested from our own -continued- | ||
