N-W. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} COPY. Br1/H25/5/25. Technical - 40/50 Steering. I thank you for your Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}2/M23/5/25 concerning the above matter, together with copies of the memos from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} The points they mention are, of course, known to us, and are dealt with in every case of complaint. The experience we had on one car last week may be of interest to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and he may care to develop his investigations on the lines carried out by us in this instance. We received chassis No.123.EM, the property of Mr.Gliksten. After making sure of all adjustments, wheel balance, friction device etc. the wobbles were no better at anything over 60 m.p.h. The owner had stated that he would not drive the car again until this trouble was cured, therefore we were faced with the necessity of doing something desperate in this case. On checking the track of the front wheels, we found that they were "set in" in front to the extent of 1/8". We increased this to 1/4", and upon re-trying the car we found the trouble to be practically eliminated. It was certainly so much better that the chauffeur was willing to take it away as he thought his owner would be quite satisfied. I shall be interested to hear what Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} thinks of this idea. Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} | ||
