| CHB/IR 11th March 1936. Messrs. Rolls Royce Limited, DERBY. For the attention of Mr.H. Royce. Dear Sirs, Your Order No. 95445. In connection with the above, which calls for 3½" diameter Aerolite Pistons for the Bentley chassis, and our conversations recently on the subject of price, we explained that the difference in price which we had made between the 3¼" diameter and the 3½" diameter, arose largely from the unexpectedly high percentage of foundry scrap which we actually encountered during the period we were manufacturing the former piston, caused by the extremely high standard set by your Inspection Department in this respect. As a result, we have continually been endeavouring to reduce the proportion of foundry defects, and our efforts, coupled with our increasing knowledge of the handling of RR.53, are beginning to produce satisfactory results. It is possible therefore, as a result of these improvements, for us to respond to your invitation to look into the matter of price, and whilst it is appreciated that there is an actual increase in the material used to manufacture the larger piston, we are agreeable to offer it to you | ||
