Copy. I.A.E. RESEARCH AND STANDARDISATION COMMITTEE. Research Department, No.6997. Class 245, 101. 5, Bolton Road, Chiswick, W.4. January 1934. Compression Ratios of American 1934 Cars. C.O. Willson, Oil and Gas J.{Mr Johnson W.M.}, Jan. 18, 1934, p.11. There has recently been a sharp improvement in motor fuel quality in the United States, the octane rating of regular grades' having risen from 65 to 69. The 'premium grade' of ethyl gasoline still shows an octane rating of 5 to 6 above the 'regular grade'. In the following table are given the compression ratios of representative cars for 1933 and 1934, the average compression ratio for the two years being 5.59 and 6.1 respectively. Name of Car 1934 1933. Auburn 6-52................. 6.2 5.26 Buick 34-60................. 5.25 5.25 Cadillac V-12............... 6.25 5.60 Chevrolet, Master 6......... 5.45 5.20 Chrysler 8.................. 6.20 or 6.2 5.20 Dodge 6..................... 6.20 5.50 DeSoto...................... 6.20 5.35 Ford V-8.................... 6.33 6.33 Graham, Standard 6.......... 6.50 6.50 Hudson 8.................... 5.80 5.80 Hupmobile 421............... 5.75 5.75 Nash 8...................... 5.25 5.10 Oldsmobile 8................ 5.70 5.50 Packard 8................... 6.00 or 6.36 6.00 Plymouth.................... 5.80 or 6.5 5.50 Pontiac 8................... 6.20 5.70 Studebaker 8................ 6.30 5.50 C.G.W. | ||
