X6132 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wat.A/AD. April 10th, 1932. Messrs. Joseph Lucas Ltd., Great King St.{Capt. P. R. Strong}, Birmingham. For the attention of Mr. W. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Holman. Dear Sirs, We have tested the sample ammeter which your Mr. R.{Sir Henry Royce} M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Smith gave to us during our visit to your Works on saturday last. This ammeter had a special damping arrangement fitted which consisted of a turn of wire round the spindle thereby providing friction on the spindle itself. On the road this ammeter shows very little improvement over the existing one so that presumably the damping is not sufficient and we should be glad if you will continue to experiment in this direction in order that we may have a really satisfactorily damped instrument as soon as possible. We should appreciate one or two instruments fitted with experimental damping schemes from you for further trial in order that a satisfactory instrument may be evolved as soon as possible. With regard to our instructions to our Order Office for the instruments on order, will you please arrange to carry on with the deliveries in the meantime. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
