Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. C.S. Steadman. We acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 6th inst. and have noted your remarks in regard to the Thermostat which you have had on test for 10,000 miles. The variation in temperature, namely, from 80/85°C. to 65/70°C. is not easily explained and is probably due to the cause you mention, i.e., foreign matter trapped under the valve which secured itself. This would be the only explanation, particularly as you have found after 10,000 miles running that the Thermostat was still thermostatically accurate. Regarding the puncturing of the bellows this we are a little puzzled over, and quite frankly would have expected the lift to be considerably more than .093. On the other hand the Thermostat is a special job and the setting is much higher than the one we normally provide for other manufacturers. In the circumstances we should like to have an opportunity of examining this particular Thermostat if you will be kind enough to return same to us, marked for the attention of the undersigned. We have no record of the free length of the bellows before despatch as these do vary, and for ordinary conditions is not a very serious matter, although in your particular case we should of course be ready to grade them. contd: To avoid delay all envelopes should be addressed to the firm. handwritten: holin Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/SSJ | ||
