6-Goshawk-11.

Miles run May 16th. 352
" " May 17th. 382
Previous mileage since Derby - 7021
Total mileage to May 17th. - 7755

By May 25th. the car should have completed 10,000 miles and I should like to know by return what it is intended to do with it. Shall we continue to run it or shall I send it back to Works?

The chassis was oiled and greased on the 16th. and on the same day No.1 cylinder missed fire at low speed. This was found to be due to the exhaust valve not closing due to the clearance having been absorbed. We can only suppose that the valve has stretched. We re-adjusted the tappet clearance and are returning running on to see if the trouble recurs. The spring clips on the near side front spring was also found to be loose and was tightened up.

A point which requires looking into is the quality of the fan belts. On all three cars which have been out here, the fan belts have had to be constantly adjusted. It is probable that leather is of poor quality - on 5-G-11 we kept on adjusting until the belt finally broke.

The thermometer has also gone west, and if it is intended to keep the car here much longer, I will get a new one from Paris Depot.
