traffic conditions. The heater itself gets to a temperature of 80°C. The heater is more efficient than the "Thermorad" because in the case of the "Thermorad" while the bottom of the heater is let through the floor boards and is exposed to the cold air. - In the case of the "Perfection", the pressed steel pan protects it. The disadvantages with this type of Heater are chiefly the means of operating the valve and the fact that the valve is inclined to rattle on the seat if it is only opened a small way. Another disadvantage is the fact that any dust or dirt can pass through the grid and this would cause an unpleasant smell when roasted on the hot pipes. - It is difficult to clean out.
The customers, however, who demand Exhaust Heaters, we would recommend to them the "Perfection" Heater. *
Conclusion.
Although the exhaust heating has the disadvantage that the amount of heat supplied depends on the output of the engine, we think it is preferable to complicating the water system and having water heating. We consider the problem of Exhaust heaters is the valve and means of operating. It is a more difficult job than a cut-out because it must be adjustable. The flap or butterfly valve does not seem very good because the intermittent pressure in the exhaust pipe causes these valves to rattle when off their seats. We should suggest that a screw stop valve close up against the heater, so as to do away with the long controls, would be worth trying. We suggest that we should get out a scheme (especially for the
