R.R. 285 a (200 T) (S.E. 627, 21-2-18) G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 2129 Mr Pope from BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. EFC. December 30. 1918. BY14/P301218. RE ELECTRICAL STARTERS FOR AERO ENGINES. X. 3328 Referring to your EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/Y9/LS211218 the position in regard to the Electrical Starting scheme is as follows:- Capt. Williams of the Technical Dept. visited our works and pointed out to us, that since it was not possible for us to take the motor out when the engine was in position in the plane the design was considered by the Technical Dept. as unsuitable. I therefore wrote Mr Royce upon the subject sending on Captain Williams remarks and also copy of a letter which he wrote on the same subject, but up to the present Mr Royce has not replied. The position therefore is at the moment, that we are producing one set of starter parts in the experimental department to Mr Royce's designs, but we cannot produce the number of sets required by the Air Board as they consider the design unsatisfactory and no definite arrangement has been arrived at in the matter between ourselves and the Technical Department.
