1379 To. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GR.{George Ratcliffe} Levallois. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GR.{George Ratcliffe}3/JAB.15.I.39. DAILY REPORT. Paulin Bentley II.- B-27-LE. First road tests on Paris/Trappes road. Carburation and detonation fairly reasonable on the way out from Paris, snap opening poor. The ignition timing at T.D.C. is too late for part throttle economy but is approximate for detonation full throttle. Carburation is O.K. for part throttle economy when the idling mixture is correct. Appreciable gain is obtained by advancing the ignition but misfires occur if the mixture is weakened even with extra advance (10-15°). This will delete the use of the mixture control for part throttle economy and relieve the driver from adjustment. Clutch slips at 2,000 to 3,000 r.p.m. on full throttle acceleration (maximum M.E.P.) The car was tested with the cold air intake fitted and above 50 m.p.h. carburation was all wrong. There was a very strong cross wind at the time. Believe mixture is far too weak with air under pressure at the front, but will find out more on Monthlery to-morrow. ---------- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GR.{George Ratcliffe} | ||
