Dear Sir:

Re: Proposal Sheet No.30
Ground Continuous Gears.

Some months ago we obtained on approval a Lees-Bradner grinder to produce speed gears.

The American owners are not particularly interested in noise of speeds since they seldom use them, but are exceedingly exacting in silence of sideshaft gears when idling. Partly for this reason, but more particularly to eliminate the use of abrasive on any gears, we have finished two lots of 20 sideshaft gears, making these 7s pitch 20° angle full depth like the speed gears, so as to use existing ground hob which is of special form to give required grind-ing allowances on teeth.

These are 100% acceptable and are a distinct improvement on other gearboxes without running in. They have none of the high shriek we have met with on other ground gears.

It is therefore proposed to continue this practice.
