E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} } FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} 86134 R2/M10.8.32. C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} PEREGRINE STARTER MOTOR. This (I understand) is a smaller specimen of our seque ce type simplified from P.2., and like J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3., but at present is too easily stalled, because - (1) the size is too small. (2) the winding is too fine, or (3) the gear ratio is not great enough. No.(1) should be compared with the Bosch on the Alfa Romeo, and not altered if reasonable, and we can get satisfaction, by altering No.s (2) and (3) say 25 to 30% we might fairly easily get double the available maximum torque to engine flywheel.
