To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. EY. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} 43994 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/T16.1.29. S.S. CAR. +7770 We suggest that we ought now to fix a date for sending a car to France which is to be a model of the cars it is proposed to manufacture. We recommend we allot 21-EX and that this car must be in France fitted with all the modifications it is proposed to make by the 14th February. This date should enable us to prove out experimentally the parts before the car leaves, but there will be no time to spare. We expect to receive the report on the examination of the S.S. car 18-EX after 10,000 miles about Jan. 21st. The chief items in which this car will be different from 18-EX will be :- (1) Improved starter motor. (2) Standard Phantom generator and switches. (3) Improved front shock absorbers. (4) Modified engine mounting. (5) Improved exhaust system. (6) New type rear wheel carriers. (7) Modified coupling between engine and gear box. (8) More effective means of keeping mud from rear brakes. (9) Modified brake leverages. (10) More efficient vacuum pump. (11) Modified controls on steering column. (12) Road springs with improved lubrication. (13) Modified central oiling scheme on axles. and a number of small modifications as pointed out in Hancock's reports and Sales criticism. As this is to be the model production car it is essential that we get this car completed and approved and sent down to Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence as soon as possible.
