To RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/VS.{J. Vickers} c. to HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} 1027 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}22/JH. 1.10.37. Cast Iron Liners for Wraith Aluminium Brake Drums. A number of these liners have after machining proved to be porous, and we have returned one of the defective ones to you for examination and analysis. We have been compelled to fit a set of these defective liners to 24.G.VI. as we have nothing else to use, but they will have to be replaced eventually. All our stock of liners will have to be examined and replaced if necessary. We understand these liners were produced during the transition period in the foundry: it is important to test all material cast in the foundry thoroughly as otherwise the experimental expenditure is much increased as in this case.
