CHASSIS NO. GNC-26. RE: SERVO SQUEAKS.

With reference to the above chassis which has had recurrent servo squeaks, and which we recently fitted RAD.13 discs with the back plate riveted to the driving plate and carbon pencils fitted. I have had the car in and found under certain conditions a peculiar squeak from the servo was obtained. Upon dismantling, the following features were noticeable :-

(1). The back RAD. disc had not been rivetted concentric with the driving plate, and the edge was fouling the drum, rubbing fairly hard.

(2). The centre steel friction disc had been fouling the drum on the diameter.

(3). The outer driving plate had in some manner been knocked about, and the face was not running true. I had No.1 corrected by turning it true in the lathe. No.2 the diameter was reduced by turning. No.3 was also trued up, a slight skin being taken off the face. The same friction discs were used. I ironed the servo in for approximately quarter of an hour before taking the car on the road. Result of the test was, no squeaks of any description could be obtained. It was again tested after allowing it to get cold, with the same result.

The car had brake squeaks and grunts, which we really believed the owner was confusing with servo squeak, having once had same. These have been corrected. I have not, therefore, fitted the discs Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} gave me.
