X3588 CJ. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} R6/G23.11.21. X.3588 - RE 15. H.P. LORRAINE-DIETRICH X.4219 This is a car comparable in size with our Goshawk 11. Though called 15 H.P. it is over 20 H.P. R.A.C. rating, about 10% larger in capacity than Goshawk 11. From Mr. Elliott's report I understand this chassis has many omissions when compared with the Goshawk, for instance - No detachable head. No lubrication to the rockers and ends. No provision for catching rhw oil near the rockers. Exposed valve rods. Zenith Carburetter - not good enough for full throttle slow speeds. No extra provision for easy starting or running with bad fuel. Ignition plugs in an oily position, probably prone to detonations. Valves in cages as in Buick - a bad fault. (Engine very like Buick but scarcely as good as their model of several years ago.) Petrol near starter motor commutator. Exhaust pipe too near dynamo. No device for controlling cooling water temperature. MADE AT CRICKLEY R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
