To HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} -4- (12) OIL LEVEL INDICATOR. Regarding the marking of the level indicator, we agree that ¼, ½, ¾, and 1 gallon will be more easily understood. Will you kindly get these marked in this way. (13) OIL FILTER. Regarding the oil filter, as this is self-cleaning and cannot in the face of it be a satisfactory filter, we think there is no reason to regret its want of handiness, especially considering the difficulty which would be caused if we tried to make this easily removable from the top. We do think, however, that we should have some convenient means of emptying the oil from the engine, more so than we have done in the past with the 40/50 H.P. If the oil could be easily drained out it would be more likely to keep in good condition. (14) INSPECTION COVER. We agree that this should be easily placed in position. Perhaps the best arrangement would be to have two cigar ended steady pins on which to drop the cover or use studs. Mr. Stent will send an arrangement. (15) CORE PLUGS. The last item of your list will receive attention, but there are probably reasons of a special design for some of these plugs, and as they are a departmental Works Job they may not cause much trouble if it is found on examination that they require to be of more than one type. R.{Sir Henry Royce} We shall anxiously look out for the results of more tests and news of progress. | ||
