-2- charging current flowing in the regulator field winding. The effect then is to limit the charging current to a small value, as any tendency for it to rise results in an increased back E.M.F. in the generator field circuit, thus reducing the generator field current, which in turn prevents the generator voltage rising appreciably. The line voltage is thus maintained at such a value as to give a small charge into the accumulator, and is only in excess of the accumulator voltage by the amount of the voltage drop in the field winding of the regulator, which is of low resistance. It will be seen that heating or lighting loads do not affect the regulation, as the regulator is concerned only with the actual current flowing in the accumulator. Ha/met. | ||
