SECRET. 260 Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/R.18.8.38. GENERAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRESS. A.{Mr Adams} New Experimental Cars. B.III. The second B.III, which is intended to go to France next month, was completed 18/8/38. It is fitted with steel wheels, small universal gearbox and fully-floating rear axle. Both the axle and gearbox will have to be modified as a result of recent development before the car goes away. A final radiator design is being produced for the next car. The third B.III frame is being built up, the fourth made into an up-to-date bump chassis. Two more frames will be ordered for the fourth and fifth cars, the frame for the sixth car will be held up until nearer the date when it is required. B.50. The decision to lengthen the rear road springs to cope with the body weight established by the first car has meant that the second frame has been delayed. We anticipate, however, that it will catch up the body. The first B.50 is being used for gearbox and exhaust system tests and general development. WRAITH REPLACEMENT. The frame has been ordered. Designs on the hydraulic brakes and modified front suspension parts are proceeding. The frame should be ready for the body in 8 to 10 weeks' time. | ||
