SERVICE COMPLAINTS.

We have looked into this job and mainly agree with Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}9/R.19.5.37. our practice is as stated in the above memo, actually we are working closer to drawing in respect of weight difference, since drawing limit is ½ oz, whereas we work to ¼ oz.

The reason being that our smallest weight is ½ oz and we cannot weigh in drams, so we endeavour to be well within the ½ oz. allowed.

We agree there is no difficulty in stamping the weight of the rod, on one of the six rods say, 1 lb 12 ozs. on No. 1 rod, would mean that all rods in that set would be within the limit of plus or minus ¼ oz.

This weight would be recorded, and in the event of a replacement being required, the weight of number one rod would be quoted and a rod could be supplied within this limit.

This scheme would be preferable to tying down the machining of rods to finer limits to obtain interchangeability by reducing the limit in weight, as increased machining costs would of necessity arise.

Will BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} please instruct for this stamping to be shown on drawing giving location and size of stamps.
