DESCRIPTION OF TESTS.

The following characteristics have been obtained:-

1. Delivery - pump r.p.m. with unrestricted suction and
(a) Relief valve and bye-pass valve in action; maximum delivery pressure 2 1/2 lbs/sq.in.
(b) Relief valve and bye-pass valve in action, with the delivery pressure maintained at 10 lbs/sq.in. by means of a restriction valve on the delivery side.
(c) Relief valve blanked off; bye-pass valve in action; unrestricted delivery.
(d) Relief valve and bye-pass valve blanked off.

It was noted during these tests that the finish on the sealing faces of the relief valve and the bye-pass valve was very poor; to blank them off satisfactorily it was necessary to fit a Klingerite packing piece on to the valve seating.

2. Delivery - depression at pump inlet with unrestricted delivery and
(a) Relief valve and bye-pass valve in action.
(b) Relief valve blanked off; bye-pass valve in action.

The depression at the pump inlet was varied
i. by a restriction valve on the inlet side.
ii. by evacuating the fuel tank.

3. Delivery - delivery pressure with the relief valve and bye-pass valve in action and unrestricted suction.

4. Curve of vacuum obtainable against speed when using the pump as a vacuum pump delivering against zero pressure. At 1250 pump r.p.m. a vacuum of 29 1/2" Hg. was obtained, but when attempting to take a reading at 1560 r.p.m. the pump began to seize and the test had to be abandoned.

The weight of the pump and the power required to drive it were also measured and the speed at which pumping commenced with 2ft. suction lift and unrestricted delivery noted.

RESULTS OF TESTS.

The characteristics of the pump obtained from these tests are shown in the accompanying diagrams MT 200, 201, and 203.
