CONTD :- -4- flexibility in EAC.Vll shafts and mountings. (b) Twist of EAC.Vll axle under braking torque. In order to determine the amount of pedal travel lost due to the rear axle winding up on brake application, a test was carried out in which the rear wheels were locked and the car lifted by a point located at the tyre radius, the subsequent movement of point P. on the lever being obtained graphically for various positions. Though this method of test does not exactly represent road conditions, the torque being applied through a vertical pull, it considerably simplifies the tackle required. We do not consider that the pedal travel results are affected to any extent due to the method used. The torque obtained when the car lifts is equivalent to a co-efficient of friction of one between the tyre and the road. (c) Lost movement due to elasticity in the system between the pedal and the rear axle. Load at P.
