C O P Y. Silvertown Lubricants Ltd., Minoco Wharf, West Silvertown, London, E.16. IOD/B/RB.{R. Bowen} October 23rd, 1935. Messrs. S. Smith & Sons (Motor Accessories) Ltd., Cricklewood Works, Cricklewood, N.W.2. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. Sellens. Dear Sirs, Now that our Laboratory have had the opportunity of examining more thoroughly the sample of alleged Jackall Fluid recently sent us, we are in a position to report more fully as to the result of their investigations. In consequence we can state quite definitely that the sample does not resemble any material which we have ever supplied. It was found to consist approximately of the following:- 65% low grade castor oil 25% light organic solvent 15% mineral spindle oil The mixture was found to be non-homogeneous and on standing for a few hours, the mineral oil separated out and rose to the top. The solvent is a mixture of colourless liquids which dissolve castor oil, but not mineral oil. Our Laboratory have not been able to identify the exact nature of the solvent, although acetone has been established to be present and Ethyl alcohol (which is incorporated in the Jackal Fluid with which we supply you) is present. The solvent is similar to that which might be used in the preparation of cellulose paint. | ||
