this carburetter on the Napier. The S.U. is used on all high class British cars.

The position of the Rolls-Royce carburetters are as follows :-

R.R.Twin Carburetters.

We have been working continuously on these carburetters on the test bench and on the road, for twelve months. We have still not yet received carburetters with the final necessary modifications, neither have we yet received the design for a suitable silencer for this carburotte. Actually, unless we are prepared to put up with more noise, less power, increased cost, these carburetters are not as good as the S.U. Now that we are using a common 6 cyl. pipe some more work is necessary for it to be considered satisfactory to run on a car.

R.R. Two Single Carburetters.

We have two single carburetters which were designed for J.3. This might be applied to Phantom ll. We have, of course, no designs for induction pipes, controls, heating, etc.
It is probable we may get these to work but it would be two months before we could even say it was worth while making a final design to apply these to Phantom ll.

R.R. Single Carburetter.

This is the latest carburetter we have received from W.V. It is at present being detailed, and with a vigorous push we should get it in three to four weeks. This carburetter has more unknown features than any others we have received. Briefly, it consists of a Claudel diffuser, S.U. floating jet, R.A. air valve, and the Stromberg slow running device.

The possible difficulties with this carburetter are greater than anything else we have seen. Given that this carburetter works like a charm, we have anticipated the results we shall obtain from it by running with a single large S.U. Comparing the results with those shewn on 27-EX. with the S.U., there will be definitely more noise and less power except at the top speed.

We have to admit that on the experimental results we have jumped about somewhat in our requirements. We started off early in 1929 showing that we could get very definite increase in performance with the twin Solex carburetter. It was the end of 1930 when the R.R. carburetter
