To obtain the required degree of silence on 1st and Reverse, it is necessary to go to helical gears. This necessitates a redesign of the gearbox and operating mechanism, which in turn means a new gearbox casting. We have arranged for BY/GRL to issue preliminary prints of the drawing to HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}, for transmission to the Pattern Shop. This will enable you to decide whether to produce a new pattern or modify the existing one. Will you please arrange to put this in hand right away, as the date of completion of this work governs the date on which a decision as to which type of gearbox is fitted in the 50 experimental production B.5 chassis.
