RE: SHOCK DAMPER LOADS
-----------

Referring to your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}8/AD4.11.31 the shock damper loads which we have established and which are referred to in our Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}/SB{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}9/KH31.10.31. cover a variety of cars, including early 20.H.P. and Phantom I cars, and represent the settings which our experience of customers complaints shows to be the best compromise.

It does appear that certain of these settings might reasonably be considered from the point of view of adoption on production and we, therefore, give you below particulars of these loadings.

(1) 20/25.H.P.Standard Springs.
The chief complaint is pitching and 'kicking' at the rear and the best setting with standard springs is :-

FRONT AND REAR
Up 75.lbs
Down 95.lbs
One .031 dia hole through H.P.valves.

We do not say that this effects a complete cure but we have been able to satisfy many customers where we might otherwise have had to fit low rating springs.

We know of no case where this setting has been worse than the present production setting of 65/75.lbs.

(2) 20/25.H.P.Low Rating Springs.
Unfortunately we have not had suff-icient experience of these springs to be able to give you any definite information in regard to the best shock damper loads.
