X3498 Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. EFCL/AM4.6.30. X.3498. FERRANTI AMMETER X.4670. PARK ROYAL AMMETER. The position in respect of the above ammeters is now that both makes have run satisfactorily sufficient mileage on experimental cars to warrant the circulation of a standardisation sheet in either case. Technically, there appears to be no particular advantage either in one make or the other, we would therefore like your opinion in regard to the choice of one of these makes for standardisation on a commercial basis. Our present Elliott ammeter is giving satisfaction apart from a certain amount of trouble we have had which we fear has been mainly due to carelessness in our own works. We have also had a small amount of this trouble, due to exactly the same cause, on both the Ferranti and Park Royal instruments. There is a slight advantage of the Ferranti and the Park Royal equally over the Elliott in the damping characteristics of the movement, but we do not consider this sufficient to warrant the standardisation of both experimental makes in favour of our present standard the Elliott. In standardising therefore, one or other of the two makes Ferranti and Park Royal we are going to be faced with a difficulty of explaining away our action to the other maker. On this point we should like to hear your views and suggestions. EFC. | ||
