Subject:- DCM/WDT/LS The General Works Manager. PHANTOM III CHASSIS. OIL CONSUMPTION. The oil consumption for the first 1000 miles on No. 2 Test has for some time been unsatisfactory. Recently a car was returned from London with a complaint of high oil consumption and a further test was made on this particular car. It was found that the cylinder bores were in good condition, but there was a certain amount of trouble with the piston rings. After correcting this the car was given a further 1000 miles run on No. 2 Test. The results are given below, and for purposes of comparison a similar set of figures are also shown for a car with normal consumption. Car with corrected rings: Car with normal consumption: Mileage: Oil Added. Mileage: Oil added. 250 4 pints 250 2 pints 500 2 pints 500 1 pint 750 1 pint 750 1 pint 1000 1 pint 1000 1 pint Total: 8 Pints Total: 5 Pints We have now received instructions to the effect that all cars must be passed by the Experimental Department before being despatched. The following are the figures on the first car passed out under this new arrangement:- Mileage: Oil added. 250 1.5 pints 500 1 pint 750 1 pint 1000 Nil. | ||
