BONNET SHUTTERS.

With reference to DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/M30.10.31, the flip flap shutters which were approved by Sales had clearance of .040" all round between the shutter and the bonnet, in addition the edges of the shutter and bonnet had a radius of .030". These dimensions have been strictly adhered to by the Works and all bonnets turned out have had these dimensions.

The rivetless bonnet on 22-MX{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}, recently seen by yourself at W.W. and by Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} here at the Works, was made similarly but in thick material .104".

We should imagine that these features have been masked on the cars at the Salon by paint, in order to minimise this effect it would appear advisable to increase the clearance by an amount equal to the thickness of the average bonnet paintwork, I. In addition the radius could be increased to .075". We do not know the thickness of the average paintwork, but should imagine it varies greatly.
