X3014b To EFC. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to CJ. " " Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} " " Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RS{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}/G26.8.20. X.295. X.2515. X.3014b. X.4173. RE SMITH DYNAMO. With reference to your memo EFC1/T24.8.20, I am satisfied that the over-heating was caused by running on open circuit, i.e. disconnected by fuse from battery. We must have no fuse in this circuit, and a very definite warning in the Instruction Book upon the point (in addition probably to some instruction in cover of distributing box.) Also, can see clearly same fault would occur with C.A.V. or Lucas, or any other type of constant current machine. R.R. wiring about to be made experimentally shews no fuses between dynamo brushes and battery. I am very hopeful of this being distinctly better than anything we have had or seen.
