X.3563 BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} [Handwritten]: WEC Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG27.5.20. X3563. RE CHASSIS THERMOSTAT. X.3652. We have received a note from R.{Sir Henry Royce} saying that the Thermostat should be standardised as quickly as possible. We anticipate that the Standardisation Sheets for Thermostat will be sent through in about a fortnight. It has now completed 7000 miles of the 10,000 miles test. We recommend that the Works should be instructed to proceed with the necessary patterns so that there will be the least possible delay when the necessary standardisation sheets have been signed. We recommend also that you write again to Mr. Olley urging the delivery of the Sylphon Tubes. You will remember about 3 or 4 weeks ago he promised that the first ones would be despatched in a fortnight from then. We think it is very necessary that we should hold in stock a good number of these Sylphon Tubes so that if anything happened that we could not obtain supplies, we should be able to carry on for a reasonable time with the stock. We also think that every effort should be made to obtain Sylphon Tubes from another source as it places us in an awkward position to be dependent on American sources as a sole supply.
