MORRIS "VEDETTE" MARK II (Petrol)
4-cyl. 6/12 h.p.
MARINE ENGINE
£68 10s.
With full Electrical Equipment

TYPE. Four-cylinder, four-cycle, detachable "L" head. Rotation to suit left-hand propeller shaft on "non-reducing" engines and either hand propeller shaft on engines with reducing gear, according to type of gear. Suitable for installation up to 10°.
SIZE. 57 mm. bore x 90 mm. stroke, cubic capacity 918 c.c., 2.244 in. bore x 3.54 in. stroke, capacity 56.02 cubic in.
SPEED RANGE. From 300 to 2000 r.p.m.
WEIGHT. Standard engine, reverse gear and electrical equipment, without battery and loose fittings, 256 lb. Weight of battery, 75 lb. Weight of reducing gear, 25 lb.
COOLING. The water is circulated by a gear-type pump, driven from the forward end of the camshaft. It passes into the exhaust pipe jacket, thence to the cylinder block and out through the cylinder head, which is provided with a three-way cock for discharging into the exhaust mixing chamber or overboard. Drain plugs are provided in the cylinder block and water manifold.
LUBRICATION. The main bearings and big-end bearings are pressure fed, splash providing adequate lubrication for the pistons and little-ends. A separate hand pump is provided for draining the oil from the sump.
IGNITION. A Lucas magneto with flange mounting is fitted in an accessible position. It is provided with a special vernier coupling which permits adjustment without disturbing the engine.
LIGHTING AND STARTING. The electric starter is on the starboard side and engages teeth machined on the flywheel rim. The 12-volt dynamo provides ample current to maintain the 63 ampere hours battery well charged.

MORRIS MARINE ENGINES
The design of all Morris Marine Engines has been passed by Lloyd's for Open Sea Service

REVERSE GEAR. The "one-lever" reverse gear is of the planetary type. The "ahead" clutch is of alternate steel and bronze plates. The reverse is operated by a contracting band with external adjustment. The unit runs in oil supplied from the motor. The gear is self-locking in both ahead and astern positions. The lever can be fitted on either side of engine at any desired angle.
REDUCING GEAR (2 to 1). This bolts on to the rear of the reverse gear case. The centre distance between crankshaft and tail shaft is 4.022 inches. The case is secured by six studs and bolts, and can therefore be fixed in any one of eight equally spaced positions around the crankshaft centre, at intervals of 45°.
PROPELLER THRUST. This is taken by a large bearing in the rear of the reverse gear case. No longitudinal movement of the propeller shaft takes place and no other provision is needed to absorb propeller thrust.
COUPLING. A complete flange coupling for 1 1/8 in. propeller shaft is supplied.

PRICE with Chain or Gear Type Reducing Gear and full Electrical Equipment - £76 10s.
PRICE without Electrical Equipment - £60
PRICE with Chain or Gear Type Reducing Gear, Non-Electric Model - £68

MORRIS (PARAFFIN) "VEDETTE" (Mark II)
A small 4-cylinder engine with a power output of 6 h.p. at 1000 r.p.m. and 10 h.p. at 2000 r.p.m. It possesses the same main features as the petrol model "Vedette," but is designed to run efficiently and economically on paraffin once warm. A bi-fuel carburettor is fitted to permit initial starting on petrol, and a simple two-way cock enables the change-over to paraffin to be made without difficulty or inconvenience.

PRICE with full Electrical Equipment - £70 15s.
PRICE (Non-electrical) - £62 5s.
Chain or Gear Type Reducing Gear - £8

In addition to the comprehensive Engine Equipment which is supplied as standard with all Morris Marine Engines the following items of Installation Equipment can be supplied at an extra charge —Petrol tank : Petrol pipe : Silencer with exhaust pipe : Seacock and water strainer with circulating water pipe : Exhaust boatside fitting, circulating water boatside fitting : All cables and wires for connecting battery and instrument board to engine : Three-bladed bronze propeller fitted with bronze propeller shaft : Bronze stern tube : Engine holding-down bolts.
