-4- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/SB.{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}1/SL.2.7.34. Contd. COMPARISON OF RADIATOR MATRICES. We compared the standard 6 m.m. 7 m.m. tubes with a radiator built up with 5 m.m. 7 m.m. tubes. The tubes were conducted at 60 M.P.H. and 75 M.P.H. and confirm that there is very little to choose between the two tube sizes. The present standard tube appears to be slightly the better of the two. COMPARISON OF RADIATOR BOTTOM OUTLETS. We tried using simultaneously, outlets at each side of the bottom tank with a view to improving the distribution of water flow through the radiator. We were able to detect an improvement of 1.5° C. By using both outlets but as this is less than manufacturing differences we got between similar radia- tors it is not worth very much. However, a double outlet improves the circulation at high temperatures (Graph 111c) where we have little to spare. CIRCULATION. We conducted tests on the track restricting the circulation until the system lost efficiency to the extent of about 2° C. top water temperature. The flow under these conditions is shown in Graph 111b. It will be observed from Graph 111c. that the flow with the un-restricted standard system does not fall below the figure required for normal cooling until a bottom water temperature of 85° C. is attained which corresponds to a top water temperature approaching boiling. However, a slight obstruction in the matrix would undoubtedly impair the circulation at the higher temperatures. | ||
