Private SFT{Mr Swift}: from Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} [text is struck through] Mr. Ex. Mr. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} [text is struck through] [Handwritten] FILE Y300 HYG/T7.8.36. PHANTOM III. It is obvious from the cost returns, that we shall lose money on the P.III Chassis at least for some time. The Labour Cost is up very considerably on P.II but this was expected, and SFT.{Mr Swift} is fully aware of the facts and is confident that as the job progresses and more tools are available, also as the men get more used to the job, the Labour Cost will be brought down. The cost of Material however, is more or less fixed, and there does not seem to be much hope of Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} buying to our specification at lower prices. The increase in the Material Cost of the P.III Chassis over P.II is almost £100 perchassis. In order to obtain a reduction in this figure it would appear that very careful attention should be given to the subject by Design and Experimental Departments, in order to adjust the specification to bring the material cost down to something nearer the material cost of P.II.
