-3- the coachbuilders to finish off a car after receipt of the chassis, we are not in a position to give positive times for this job for comparison with non-subframe bodies because we have not mounted any non-subframe bodies up here. We do say that it is possible to finish off a subframe in a week after receipt of the chassis, this time has not been exceeded except perhaps in the worst cases i.e. the first bodies, since when alterations to the subframe have overcome the difficulties encountered. The time taken is not limited by mounting the body on the chassis but by fitting and painting the wings and valances which have come up to us, in every instance, in a raw unpainted state. We do not think there can be any doubt about it being a quicker job to mount a subframe body than a non-subframe one. The one great advantage is the ease with which a body can be removed completely for chassis repairs, We can remove a body easily in an hour, given reasonable lifting tackle. We should not like to think that the subframe will be done away with, its advantages are so great, apart from how it affects the coachbuilder. HA/AIL. | ||
