four types of clip. It appears to us that we do not avoid the attempted distortion of the clip, due to the twisting of the plates, and therefore if we cannot make the clip strong enough to hold it, it ought to be made flexible like a spring. Therefore we think the best section will be one which is approximately rectangular (types 2 & 3).

The suggestion for a clip which is held by rolling the end of the sixth plate around the bolt (type 3), is one that we do not think very desirable because it does not seem right to hold or steady the clip both top and bottom. But if we could add projections to the second plate as shewn, this clip seems more feasible.

The suggestion to provide two holding-down bolts instead of one (type 2) come from Mr Woodhead and seems good except for the weakening of the plate at that point, but we think this could be overcome by slightly thickening the tapered end where this clip fits.

On the Bumping Rig the first thing to go is the central holding-down stud. Then the clamping bolt holding the two horns goes, but the clip itself rarely or never breaks.

It appears that these springs can only come on at about the 2000th chassis, but in view of Mr Woodhead's remarks we think there will be no difficulty in so modifying the present springs as to make them quite usable.

We are now going into the question of front springs which we thought was not quite so urgent as the rear springs and shall be sending or bringing you a drawing in a short while.
