He630 To Ps. Paris. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG5.7.26. SIDE STEERING TUBE SPRINGS. +8450 We should like to know what your experience has been when you have fitted the weaker springs in the side steering tube to reduce steering shocks. My reason for enquiring is that some of our people in London wish to fit 2500 lbs. springs instead of the weaker ones. You tried these springs when you were making a test with Mr. Hancock and reported that they did not make sufficient improvement. The snag with the weaker springs is that the steering may not be quite so selective, but our feeling is that if an owner is being hammered to death by shocks from the steering wheel he will not notice the reduction in selectivity if he is spared from the shocks. We are hoping by now that you have fitted several cars up with the weaker springs and should have had some experience. Will you please reply at once and let us know your views - if necessary, wire.
