SpectreCodename for Phantom III - Marles Type Steering.

We wish to try some modifications to the Marles steering to reduce the joggling.

We send N. Sch.4549 and N. Sch.4554 herewith.

N. Sch.4549 shews the lead reduced so as to give an overall ratio approximating to that of the La{L. A. Archer} Salle steering on the SpectreCodename for Phantom III. This is the case with a 7" pendulum lever, and we cannot avoid increasing the number of turns of the wheel. With an 8" pendulum lever, the number of turns will be as now. The Helix angle is reduced from 6°35' to 5° 48' at the centre.

We also wish to try Timken taper rollers on the worm shaft, similar to La{L. A. Archer} Salle, and N. Sch.4554 shews this, intended to be tried as a separate experiment, and also in combination with N. Sch.4549.

The outer race, rollers and cages are a Timken standard with the worm made to suit.

We shall shortly be sending through a steering gear with reduced dimensions corresponding to La{L. A. Archer} Salle which will be for Wraith and may be found suitable for SpectreCodename for Phantom III.
