X8650 SECRET. To BY/DS. from EFC. EFC3/T24.6.24. X.9650 - E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C. SILENT STARTER GEAR. We are in receipt of your By/Ds7/ML206.24. We have now gone further into this matter and it is likely that the main switch winding may have to be reduced one odd gauge (from 26 SWG. to 27 SWG), and that the hold-off coil winding may need to be reduced one even gauge (28 SWG. to 30 SWG.). Would you also arrange to instruct up one unit with these other windings for preliminary comparative trial, the space occupied by the windings, of course, being as previously. As regards the resistance which has to be put in parallel with the main switch winding, we have gone into this matter thoroughly and would recommend that this be composed of 2 feet of nichrome wire of 32 S.W.G. This will give a resistance of just over 10 ohms, which we at present think will be suitable for either of the alternative windings. Kindly note that suitable wire can be obtained, under the name "Glowray", from The Purit Specialities Ltd., Park Street, Birmingham. As regards the connections of this resistance, no doubt you will be able to arrange some suitable method. EFC. | ||
